Visit To Kusum Pahadi Basti
At the Foundation of Health Care Technologies we work on a number of projects in the slum areas in New Delhi and at one of our outreach projects in Saraswati Camp in RK Puram, New Delhi, we were approached by Ravi , a young boy who lives in Kusum Pahari Basti . Our members were conducting a WASH study- Water, Santaitation and Hygiene there on 20th July 2013. With a hope to bring a change in his slum , Ravi came to our office a few days later and told us about his basti problems. He mentioned the lack of drinking water, no sanitation facility and mediocre garbage disposal facility. After gauging his knowledge, eagerness and attitude we told him that we would visit his basti shortly.
Our volunteers Shruti Murthy, Satish Prasad, Jyoti Bala Kasav, Shruti Sharma, Awnish Kumar Singh, Dr Mehek Segan , Dharavi and Nyamat met the residents.
Water, sanitation and education were identified as the core areas .Krishna, a young boy living in the basti, decided he would be our ‘basti mascot’. He conveyed to the people on the need to empowering the community by joining hands with us , where we would facilitate the methods and tools to overcome the problems faced by community. Everyone joined hands together with our members and pledged unity.
